Vanguard Commercial Engines"The world-class engine that delivers premium power and maximum performance"
Since the first Briggs & Stratton Vanguard engine appeared about twenty years ago, it has become a leader in the commercial engine field. The 90 degree slant design of the V-twin makes a compact unit that is very quiet and smooth running. Overhead valve design has proven to be the way to the future, not only in air cooled engines, but automotive engines as well have used this design for years. The horizontal engines come in 2.4 to 35 hp and the vertical engines in 16 to 35 hp. The V-twin comes in 16 to 35 hp. I have been involved with many engines in the last 40 years and I believe the Vanguard is about as good as it gets, when it comes to air-cooled engine power and reliability.
The 2.4 to 13 hp, 30 degree slant, single cylinder horizontal engines are used on a variety of commercial applications such as pumps, pressure washers, generators and many other uses.
These engines have proven themselves over the years as dependable long life workhorses. Here are some of the features of the horizontal single cylinder engines.
- Overhead valve design.
- Dura-Bore cast iron cylinder sleeve.
- Dual ball bearings on the crankshaft.
- Dual element air filter.
- Mechanical compression release.
- Mechanical governor.
- Splash lube system with oil guard shutdown.
- Large volume muffler for quiet operation.
The 16 to 35 hp V-twin's contain some additional or different features then the smaller horizontal units above.
- Full pressure lube with spin-on oil filter.
- Upper DU main bearing and heavy duty lower bearing (vertical).
- High flow cooling package on the V-twin.
- Sound treatment package on the V-twin for quiet operation.
- Many muffler options available on the V-twin.
