Well, I am the original owner of this mower, bought it directly from Lowes back in 2003/2004, not sure of exact date and I know I've not opened up either of the covers and it's never been serviced, never left the property.

I will look more closely for bits and pieces but even taking a second look already, I've seen nothing but some oil in the cavity.

Puzzled is the word here.

Here is one I had a few years ago.
Ended up opening it up to find the pieces.

Good luck.

Wow, what a dirty trick to do to someone.

if you dont find the bits and pieces and it has never been apart, the pieces will be in the crankcase, and you'll have to pull the engine and pop the sump off and find the pieces.

Well finally got around to working on the CC1024 24 hp B&S engine today. Had ordered the parts and they arrived middle of last week so figured Memorial Day would be the best time to tackle the job.

After reading a lot on here, Youtube videos and the repair manual, I took it apart, replaced the cylinder head and installed the push rods, adjusted the valves, put her all back together, changed the oil and filter along with replacing the air filter, started it up and wow what a difference. It cuts grass like never before, doesn't chug a bit with taller stuff, slow just a little bit when engaging the blades but catches right up. I swear, it's never run this well making me think it never had push rods at all in cylinder 2.

It runs like a brand new mower but it has over 300 hours on it.

Happy Memorial Day to everyone!

WOW.
Good job.

I found no evidence whatsoever of either push rod, no bits, no pieces, nothing. It has been suggested that it could have sucked them into the crankcase and maybe it did, but one would think, as big as they are and there are 2 of them that there would be some evidence of them but there was none. I feel like I have a brand new lawn mower and cutting the 4 acres is fun again.
