See the thing is that there are all these different people out there. They all have their ideas and beliefs about the right and wrong of things so they try to use the government to force their way of doing things on everybody else. The environmentalists are just like everybody else. What it seems to boil down to with them is that they don't like any kind of fire. That's why they want us to ride a bicycle or walk everywhere.

I'm going to use the quote function. ;)

Whether or not global warming is fact or belief really isn't important. To the environmentalists it IS real and they will act accordingly.

There are people in the middle east who believe that we all should be living under Sharia law. Here in the states the medical community is pushing to tax high fat foods and outlaw tobacco because they believe that we should have a government run single pay healthcare system.

The list of people and their beliefs could go on and on but there's a common thread here.

They all feel quite justified in using the force of law to push their beliefs upon others.

If it's a good idea you don't have to push anything on anybody. People will come to it of their own accord. :)

Im not goign to argue with you anymore. And thats NOT because what i said wasnt correct, its because we dont have a good reason to argue about this. Who will it help?

Chris
I agree. We could go on for weeks with this for no reason. Thank you

Greedy business owners that dump chemicals rather than pay to have them disposed of properly, greedy people who run their sewage into a river rather than pay for a new septic system, stuff like that. But I guess in one way too many people probably is part of the problem, after all there is a limited amount of natural resources available for us to use. But I think that to a larger extent the real problem is that we do not use the resources we do have as wisely as we should

I've been walking the same patch of woods every season for over twenty years now. After awhile you start to notice patterns and you realise that everything in the ecosystem is interconnected. It tends to balance itself out over time.

For instance: A few years back conditions were just right for the squirrel population. There were red squirrels everywhere. We never had grey squirrels in this area but even they moved in and started to prosper. Left unchecked, their numbers would have increased past the point of sustainability and they would have devoured all of the available food source in the area.

I've noticed that bald eagles and other birds of prey have moved in now. The coyote, fox, and bobcat populations have increased as well. Red and grey squirrels are one of their prey items.

Mankind is at the top of the food chain so we really don't have any natural predators to keep out numbers in check.

A hundred years ago global population was at about 1.7 billion and natural resources like oil and food were cheap and plentiful.

Nowadays we number in excess of 7 billion. Resources, both renewable and non-renewable are dwindling. Chinese trawalers well off the coast of Maine are scooping up the remaining fish stocks because they have over a billion hungry mouths to feed. In the states, we're drilling deeper and deeper (at much higher cost) to extract the oil which is the vital lifeblood of our nation. Turn on the news and it's easy to see that we live in a world of disease, famine, and war. The global economy can't be expanded fast enough to provide a job for everyone that needs to feed their family. There are billions living in grinding poverty.

It looks to me like we've passed the point of sustainability.

Unlike the animals in the woods we humans do have intellect and free will to make our own choices. The solution is fairly simple.

All we have to do is to make a choice to only have one or two children and diminish healthcare services so that we're not living quite so long. We could gently bring our numbers back down to more manageable levels over the next few generations.

Fewer people = less consumption and lower emissions. The global warming concern would take care of itself ....no ?

It's not that measures to protect the environment and ramp up food & energy production aren't good things. They are ... but they're only temporary stopgaps until we can decide for ourselves what the long term solutions need to be.

Well ... if you're of the view that war is nothing more than a competition for resources .... ?

All that rhetoric about self sacrifice and going off to die for a noble cause is just window dressing.

Funny how we always seem to send our best breeding stock off to the slaughter ?

Global warming just can't admit that they have been hoodwinked....more and more of their beloved scientists are admitting that they wrong everyday, but they never believe it. One needs look no further than East Anglia to prove this.

Yes I agree but thats not something we can really do anything about.

Walrus
Yeah i know we are getting a little off-topic, you may cancel if you want.

Bo
Of course scientists are starting to admit that thier wrong but more and more are coming to find that this is fact as well. It may be called global warming, climate whatever, it doesnt matter. We are heating up our world just by simply driving our cars every day. There is no way to stop it
