I have an 8hp Honda on a Mortar mixer I just bought used.
The engine runs at lowest throttle seemingly fine, but It won't run without the choke open when throttle is wide open or even anything other than the lowest position.
I've installed a new plug, cleaned the carb and sediment bowls, the gasket looks fine too. There was white crud, i guess corrosion if you will, on the diaphragm area, and it looks like some in the port behind the carb.
The oil looks fine and seemed to be changed recently.
I have never been deep into a small engine so what could be the problem is it the piston maybe has the white corrosion on it or do i need to keep looking at the carb area.
I have another 8hp. Honda will take the carb and gasket off and interchange to see if that helps and will post back results.

Remove the carburetor and completely strip it. Once the bowl is off, remove the main jet with a screwdriver that is in good shape and just fits in the bore, brass is soft and easily damaged. Gently tap the carb body on a firm surface to dislodge the nozzle. Make sure the jet and the small air bleed holes in the nozzle are squeaky clean.
