i have an 11 year old john deere lawnmower that has run flawlessly until this year.
engine is a briggs and stratton:
model# 12h802 1769 b1 99110856
i've always performed routine maintenance on it. so when it starting running crappy
this year i thought i would go through the fuel system first. removed gas tank, cleaned.
new gas cap, fuel line, fuel filter. removed carb, thoroughly cleaned in commercial carb
cleaner, tag wired all orifices and blew out with compressed air. installed new carb kit
with all new gaskets, base of carb to manifold gasket also. after this, checked the kill switch and brake.
decided to pull the flywheel. found that the key was starting to shear. replaced. put everything back
together. gapped armature with brass feeler gauges to b & s specs. installed new spark plug and fresh fuel.
engine starts first pull. still mows through the tallest grass. takes over an hour to cut my lawn. runs strong
for the entire hour. shut it down, push to the back yard, go to start it, nothing. cools down, starts on 1st pull.
what gives?? sorry this is so long.
