Hi, I have an old Lawn Tractor with Kawasaki engine FB460V-ES50 /serial FB460-234239 that is driving me insane. In my search for info I've come across this forum which seems to have a wealth of knowledgeable folk so I'm praying someone can shed some light before I torch the thing. Its been working well for years, albeit never been a great starter but just recently its been near impossible to start whether cold or hot. If I'm lucky and it starts after minutes of turning it over (battery is very strong, turns over fast) it will then run fine all day long as long as you leave it running, albeit a hunting a bit at idle. But once turned off and its back to turn the key and pray. So this is a starting issue only. Spraying EasyStart into the carb or directly into the chamber makes no difference, not even a backfire. I've stripped and cleaned the carb, replaced fuel lines, fuel/air filters, fresh petrol and new spark plug, replaced electrical wiring, disconnected the ignition switch earth cut out from the igniter & doubled up the igniter & coil earths. There is a spark but to my untrained eye it looks pathetic, barely visable even in dusk. The coil has been tested by my local shop and apparently gets the all clear. Coil to flywheel gaps are ok, compression is 55psi which I think is ok, can the igniter module be the problem or the fact that it runs ok once started mean this is ok? I've yet to check the valve clearances, could this cause it? Arhhhh! Going crazy, can any one help please?! thanks, Will.
