What kind of lube in a JD tiller?

Postby BLES » Wed Jul 07, 2010 9:37 am

Have a JD 214 garden tractor here with a tiller on it. Anyone know what kind of lubricant is in the chain case on the tiller attachment?

Yes, it's a JD. Not sure where it's made, or by whom, but it's a JD on a JD. This is old. Before they thought of Frontier.

Well...JD labeled a lot of makers stuff with their name so I guess a safe bet would be if it has fill and drain plugs 90wt or 120 wt straight .
I wouldn't suggest GL5 just in case there are bronze bushings in there.
Otherwise a bentonite based grease.
