Welcome to our new forum

Postby Bruce » Sun Nov 30, 2008 8:07 pm

I want to welcome everyone to the new Small Engine Technical Forum using the phpBB Olympus software. This is the latest and greatest they have to offer and has a little different look and many new features. You may still access the old forum by clicking on the link beneath the forum header and view the 57,489 posts there. New registration is now closed on the old forum. If you are having problems doing anything here, see the FAQ's at the upper right first, then PM me.

If you our interested in posting to this forum, you will need to register. This registration process is streamlined and simpler than before. Please read the forum rules, as they have changed from our old forum. The number code you will need for registration is 409. I have set registration to user activation, so once you complete the registration, you are sent an email that you need to click a link to activate your account. It will be much quicker than the activation procedure we had to use on the old forum to prevent spammers. This phpBB 3.0 forum is much more secure than the old phpBB 2.0 forum was. I recommend using your old user name, so everyone will know who you are. You have the ability to change your user name anytime you so desire in your "User Control Panel" after you register.

The first thing you should do once activated is visit the "User Control Panel" at the upper left. This takes the place of the Profile button on the old forum and there are lots of things you can do to your account there including signatures and avatars. Notice to the right of the "User Control Panel" is a message alert for PM's. If any of you need help setting up or moving your avatar or anything else, just PM or email me as before.

To entice you to come on over, register and hang out in the new forum, I have added several new things, including an "Old Engines and Restorations" forum. I have also moved the "Small Engine Links" forum over here and it has all the links in it that were posted before. There is also a new "Classified Ads" section where you can buy and sell for free. For now I am going to leave the old forum open and in tack and this forum will start over with new posts and build its own database of information over the months and years.

Here are things I might suggest to help you enjoy the forum more. The PM and Email buttons can now be found below the posters info on the right. Instead of the Profile button we had on the old forum, you have a "User Control Panel" at the upper left to modify your user info and make changes to your account. Another thing that might be helpful is if you don't get an answer to your post or sell your item quickly enough, you will see a bump topic icon at the bottom of the post and you can click and bump it to the top again (once per week). To learn more about how to use the BBCodes listed at the top of your posting box, read the information here. The Precise Engine Repair button is clickable and takes you to our website with additional info on small engines. The new forum officially opened on December 1, 2008. I hope everyone will enjoy using this new forum - Bruce :D

Bruce,

Thanks so much for all the effort you put into this valuable forum.

I'm wondering if there is a way to archive the old forum somewhere so we can access it. There is a lot of valuable info there, and I know I used it a lot before becoming a member.

Here's the way I transferred mine. I simply went to the old forum and right clicked on my avatar, saved it to file and uploaded it. Click on User Control Panel and go from there.
The only stupid question is one not asked.

Bruce - I like the "fresh" look of the forum's format. It will take a little getting used to, just like anything. As others have already mentioned, your hard work and extra effort are greatly appreciated and I thank you for it. As a mod for another OPE forum, I know the amount of work that is entailed. Great job and thanks again! :D

Bruce you did a outstanding job with the new Forum. I liked the old forum, but the new format seems to be more user friendly,
and easier on the eyes. Thank you for all the hard work you put into this.
