Kill wire change

Postby choogie62557 » Fri Nov 20, 2009 5:55 pm

Am considering changing engines in my MTD riding mower. It now has 16hp opposed twin with one kill wire I want to put in 26hp ELS both are briggs. The 26hp has two kill wires with diodes. What does it intail to add this? Do I just connect the kill wires all together like a single wire. I know I don't have the numbers spare me sir!

The 26hp system uses two coils, because it is a 2 cylinder engine. The diodes are there to prevent feedback from one coil to the other on the kill switch circuit. Not sure on your application, but the diode harness should come out with just one wire going to the kill switch at the end of the harness that Y's into the diode part going to the coils. If you eliminate this harness or have a bad diode in it, the engine will not shut-off or run properly - Bruce :D

Yep...I should have mentioned splicing them AFTER the diodes.

On the harness from the engine the wires are separate at the connecter. Should Y from there to start switch?

Tie them together AFTER the diodes...(they should be in place)....then to the kill switch.

In other words. The top parts of the "Y" are the diodes and the upright part will go to the switch for ground.
